- End (MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM): 2/11/2024 11:00 AM
- Approximate Duration: 4 hours
- Access : The building remains open but we recommend not to come on site during this shutdown even if your area is not listed as there might be issues with card access and lighting.
- Category: Service Interruption
- Affected Services: electrical (normal power), electrical (emergency power), lighting, deionized water, compressed air, vacuum, autoclaves
- Ref: AMRC
- Description: The construction of AMRC will soon begin. A major shutdown is required in February to provide power from RGN for the construction site. This shutdown will have impact on more than 1500 pieces of research equipment, lighting, hvac, elevators, etc. Information about equipment, panels and rooms affected is available from a Power Bi report. Please note that this inventory only includes equipment from Medicine, so other stakeholders need to evaluate the impact on their respective areas.
- Power Transfer:
- This power transfer is a manual transfer
- From the 1st floor, the electricians will turn the main switch A-A Bus2 off. This will turn the normal power off of everything connected to A-A Bus2.
- This will cut the power to B-B Bus2 and C-C Bus2.
- All emergency power panels in block 5 (rooms #5##) will be automatically transferred to the emergency power generator.
- All normal power in block 5 feeding ventilation units and normal lighting will be off.
- Electricians will then provide normal power to B-B Bus2 and C-C Bus2. This might take about 30 minutes.
- All emergency power panels in block 5 will be automatically transferred back to normal power
- All normal power in block 5 feeding ventilation units and normal lighting will be back on normal power.
- The same steps will be taken backwards once the electrical work is complete.
- Power Shutdown:
- Equipment identified as “shutdown” will have no power for the whole duration of the work (4 hours).
- In the Power Bi report:
- Equipment identified as “transfer” and “emergency power” will have 8 short power events (off-on-off-on-off-on-off-on).
- Equipment identified as “transfer” and “normal power” will have 4 short power events (off-on-off-on).
- Equipment identified as “shutdown” and will have 2 power events (off-on).
Instructions
- Sort through the Power Bi report
- Select the shutdown date.
- Using the slicers at the top, filter by room number.
- Under “Impact”, look for “transfer” or “shutdown”.
- Under “Power”, look for “normal” or “emergency”.
- Verify if you have a fumehood impacted.
- Use the top right arrow to reset all filters.
- Fumehoods:
- To ensure the safety, DO NOT USE the fumehoods identified while this work is being performed. To prevent chemical odors/vapors from being drawn up through ductwork, laboratory personnel are required to close / cap all chemical & waste containers that are currently present within their fume hood. Please print, complete and post the form " Fermeture pour entretien - Pre Maintenance Shutdown". We will aim to tour the labs on the afternoon of the working day prior to the shutdown to verify that the Certification has been posted. Once Facilities has removed the sign from your fumehood, you may resume working in the fumehood as normal.
- Power Transfer:
- Unplug all non-essential instruments to prevent damages from power spikes (e.g. empty CO2 incubators, BSCs, etc) before Sunday February 11th.
- All the -80C freezers are plugged into emergency circuits, and the Sensaphone monitoring system will remain active.
- Power Shutdown:
- Unplug all instruments before Sunday February 11th to prevent damages from power spikes.
- Fridges and freezers can withstand a 4 hour electrical interruption if the door remains closed – this is a similar situation to what happens at home during a temporary power failure after a storm.
- Consider relocating highly sensitive samples to your designated cold room (CTE) or in a freezer not impacted by the shutdown.
- If you wish to relocate an essential instrument, please contact Medfaci ([email protected]) and provide a short justification.
During the shutdown, members of CETS and medfaci will respond to any unexpected emergencies that could occur.
We are working on updating and improving our inventory. In the meantime, please note that our information may be incomplete and other adjacent spaces or equipment may be affected. Please verify the identification of receptacles of your critical equipment. Let us know if you have questions or concerns. If you are worried for your equipment, you may unplug your affected equipment and plug it temporarily on a normal power receptacle. In order to avoid any electrical issues, you need to unplug an equipment of equivalent or higher amperage and use its receptacle. After the shutdown, you must reconnect your equipment to its original receptacle. If you need extensions cords, let us know. We recommend that all affected sensitive electronic equipment in offices and laboratories is shut down and unplugged, including computers, screens, printers, scanners, photocopiers and other sensitive equipment, even if connected via a surge protector or Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
