Program Requirements PhD

The following requirements must be met:

6 units at the 8000 level or above with at least 3 units in BCH, approved by the Program Director

6 compulsory units: EPI8166 or EPI8566 and MED8167 or MED8567. 6 optional units chosen from EPI graduate courses.

Seminar Presentation

Students may be required to take additional courses, depending on their backgrounds.

Minimum Standards

The passing grade in all courses is C+. Students who fail 6 units, the thesis proposal, or whose research progress is deemed unsatisfactory are required to withdraw from the program.

Residence

All students must complete a minimum of 6 terms of full-time enrolment. In the case of transfer students, the residency period is 9 full-time terms from the initial enrolment in the program.

Duration of the Program

The requirements of the program are usually fulfilled within 4 years. The maximum time permitted is 6 years from the date of initial enrolment in the program, or 7 years in the case of the students transferring from the masters to the doctorate.
