School For African Children - Children Smiling Whilst Learning

Developing Priorities

In our community, practicing medicine in a single payer publicly-funded system many of the priority health concerns have already been decided by the Ministry of Health. Nonetheless, our community is unique in many ways. To define a Social Accountability mandate, a Social Accountability Leadership Committee was developed. We identified the following priorities for our school:

  • Francophone Health Inequities
  • Urban Disadvantaged Health Issues
  • Indigenous Health Concerns
  • Rural/Regional Health Inequities
  • Global Health

Leaders for each priority report to the Director and are all members of the Social Accountability Leadership Committee. The committee will examine community needs through a “lens” of social accountability that includes Social Determinants of Health, Advocacy, Diversity and Respect.
