The Faculty of Medicine offers a great number of scholarships and bursaries to students registered in our MD program. Scholarships are awarded for academic achievements while bursaries are awarded based on financial need.
Upon admission, the Professional Entrance Scholarship is awarded to the top students who have achieved the highest WGPA.
We also offer Educational Bursaries which are awarded to students registered full time in the undergraduate medical education program at the Faculty of Medicine who have been approved for and have received their government financial aid. To obtain more details regarding Education Bursaries, please visit the Financial Aid and Awards website, the information can be found under the heading “Admission scholarships and bursaries” and scroll down until you see the Education Bursary for Students in Medicine.
For a complete list of scholarships and bursaries offered to MD students, please use the Online Scholarships and Bursaries tool, select ‘general directory’ and enter medicine in the field ‘type’. We strongly encourage you to apply for all bursaries/scholarships for which you qualify.
How to apply for scholarships and bursaries
- Step 1: Log on to your uoZone account
- Step 2: Access Online Scholarships and Bursaries, located under the “My Finances and Job” menu.
- Step 3: Complete your student profile.
The Financial Aid Office recommends that you take your time to thoroughly complete the financial questionnaire and to have a look at it early enough during the academic year to ensure that you do not miss any deadlines. If you need assistance with any questions on the questionnaire, please contact the Financial Aid and Awards Office at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 613-562-5734.
Most of the in-course bursaries/scholarships deadlines are September 30th and October 31st for the first term and February 28th and March 31st for the second term. We recommend that verify the online scholarships and bursaries regularly to see if new ones have become available.
Faculty of Medicine Bursaries
To encourage you to apply to these, and in order to make the application process faster and easier, the Financial Aid and Awards Service, in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, has grouped all bursaries solely based on financial need that are specifically intended to the Faculty of Medicine (MD Program) students, into one!
Thus, when applying for scholarships/bursaries, please ensure to select the bursary Multiple Financial Need Bursaries – MD Program. This will give you a chance to be considered for a series bursaries, as long, of course, that you meet all the eligibility criteria of the different bursaries (Ie. There could be residency criteria such as being an Ontario resident).
We have also grouped a series of bursaries that are based on community involvement: Community involvement for Students in the MD Program.
