- To prepare anesthesiologist-researchers who will become leaders in the field of implementation science for a career in academic medicine.
Academic Supervision
This will be achieved through:
- Working with the Fellow to develop a research plan which addresses his or her professional goals in academic Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, with a strong focus on research – be it methodological research, clinical research, or education research;
- Providing training in research through a combination of didactic study, research practice and intensive individual mentorship in research methods and dissemination, including publication;
- Engagement into a Masters or PhD program will be encouraged;
- Providing experience in study design, statistical analysis and/or qualitative analysis, project management, and grant writing;
- Integrating the fellows into the activities of an academic Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.
Clinical and Academic Responsibilities

The goals of the fellowship will be achieved via formal and informal teaching, as follows:
- Commitment to completion of at least three research projects (from research question to publication, including applying for research grants);
- Presentation of research project at the Department’s Annual Gary Johnson Research Day;
- Participation / attendance in Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine Rounds / Journal Club.
Research field
- The Fellow will work on studies related to the Operating Room Black Box® and knowledge translation in anesthesiology.
- The Fellow will contribute to a dynamic and productive research program aiming to optimize intraoperative synesthesia clinical practice.
- The research program involves topics such as patient safety, teamwork, communication, handover, performance assessment.
