To facilitate academic advice between years, social interaction, and to share those pearls to surviving residency, we will aim to have regular resident social events as well as annual events. During the year you will also be invited to attend:

Career Guidance
Meet the Faculty Series
Summary: This program is to provide our residents with improved access to career planning sessions longitudinally throughout their residency. Residents are always encouraged to be proactive in seeking out guidance and advice from individual faculty on specific topics related their career interest.
Format: Four sessions per year. Each session is 1-1.5 hrs long schedule with 1 or 2 staff each session. Two per semester, hiatus over summertime.
Speakers are chosen from the following backgrounds;
DAPM Human Resource committee, Mentorship program for new faculty, Community anesthesia, Research, Leadership, Education, Quality and Patient Safety, Subspecialty groups (Peds, cardiac, thoracics, regional, Obs, Neuro, etc…)
Main questions we are trying to have our guest speakers address:
- How did you view the decision of Academic vs. Community practice?
- How did you choose the particular area of Anesthesia that you focus on?
- How did you decide to do another academic degree, fellowship or not?
- How did you find a job? How did you navigate the application process?
- What do you know now, that you wished you knew then?
What mistakes did you make along the way and how did you recover or learn from those mistakes?
Wellness Curriculum
- The Resident Wellness Retreat will be taking place in November 2019. Please contact Holly Videto for more details.
- The University of Ottawa - Faculty of Medicine offers a Faculty Wellness Program that is open to all faculty and residents.
- The University of Ottawa - Faculty of Medicine offers the "Code 99" which assists faculty and residents in obtaining a family physician.
