Undergraduate Anesthesiology

Welcome to the Undergraduate Education in Anesthesiology section. The University of Ottawa Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine has a long and strong tradition of education in both French and English. We lecture in pharmacology and physiology at the pre-clerkship level and tutor Case-Based Learning groups in Pre-Clerkship. We also run a week-long program in Pain Management in the Link block which is the transition into clinical clerkship.

Our most visible role is one-on-one teaching in the OR for the 3rd year core rotation, and elective students in all years. We strive to give the student an exposure to the profession and to teach skills such as airway management, pain management and resuscitation that all physicians will find useful to their careers.

Our main undergraduate teaching resource is The Ottawa Anesthesia Primer, written by faculty and residents and edited by Dr. Patrick Sullivan.

Thank you for your interest.  We would be pleased to provide you with more information as needed.
