Centres and Services

The Department is home to the Ottawa Institute of Systems Biology (OISB). The aim of the institute is to develop and apply systems biology to biological studies relevant to human diseases.  The institute is a multidisciplinary and collaborative research environment. The principal investigators of the OISB are members of a wide-range of graduate programs and departments and they foster collaboration through a variety of opportunities.

In addition, many BMI faculty members organize their research into specialized groups for collaboration. For example, researchers in BMI recently formed a research group called “GRIP” (Group for Research in Inflammation and Pathogenesis), which engages researchers throughout the Faculty of Medicine. The objectives of GRIP are to develop new collaborative, innovative and multi-disciplinary research projects.

The Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology also supports six core facility. These services provide state of the art technical support to the research community of the Faculty of Medicine.
