Services

Technical Core Services - technical assistance and services provided by the technical staff.
Animal Behaviour
The Behavioral Core is supported through the University of Ottawa. Users are charged an hourly fee for all use of the Facility. Such uses include experimentation and computer analysis.
The Behavioral Core charges three basic rates
- Core Staff Performed Research rate
- Direct Supervision rate
- Indirect Supervision rate
Cell Biology and Image Acquisition Core (CBIA)
The CBIA core facility works to provide a holistic model of support to users from initial consultation, training, follow up consultations and image analysis to support your research. Basic support (excluding training) is free for users to ensure high level understanding of imaging experiments and systems used. See below for examples of support we offer to users:
- Experimental design consultation
- Fluorophore choice and microscopy platform matching
- Imaging parameter advice
- Post-acquisition support in Fiji (ImageJ) for development of analysis workflow
Training and advanced support from technical staff is a charge for use service.
Containment Level 3
Each suite has a cell culture room, procedure room and housing room for small animals. The latter has a potential capacity of 280 isolated cages (mice), and is maintained by uOttawa Animal Care and Veterinary Service. The Facility provides basic laboratory equipment while specialty equipment must be provided by individual research groups.
Flow Cytometry and Virometry
- User Training
- Analysis (Fortessa, Celesta)
- Cell Sorting (MoFlo Astrios)
- Analysis & Sorting for Submicron-sized Particles (Fortessa, MoFlo Astrios)
- Samples run by Trained Users
- Workstation
Histology
Welcome to the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine – Histology Core Facility

Services include:
- Paraffin processing, embedding and sectioning
- Embedding and sectioning of frozen tissue
- Routine and special stains
- Chromogenic and fluorescent immunohistochemistry staining
- Slide scanning
Preclinical Imaging
- Training on the use of machines (except MRI)
- Machine maintenance
- Experimental design consultation
- MRI protocol design
- MRI experiments execution, including animal handling
- MRI data supply
- MRI analysis (for some cases)
