The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa invites applications for part-time instructor positions in the field of anatomy.

The Anatomy Division functions as unit within the Department of Innovation in Medical Education. Our overriding mandate is excellence and leadership in teaching the anatomical sciences in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa. In our view, Anatomy is one of the most important basic science disciplines to teach well in a medical school. The anatomical sciences are a gateway to the clinical world for medical and health science students. Through its study they will understand the rich tapestry of structures to be encountered in every patient, while appreciating at the same time the variability that each individual possesses. The study of Anatomy introduces students to the specialized vocabulary of medicine, and helps them to begin to deal with issues of death that are inevitable in clinical practice.

Title of the position: Anatomy Instructor

Duties: Every academic year, the Anatomy Program requires expert laboratory anatomy instructors for teaching gross anatomy to first and second year medical students.  This position requires approximately 100 hours of small-group teaching, spread throughout September to May.

Terms: September 2017 to May 2018

Wage: Anatomy Instructor salary is $75/hour on a part-time basis.

Benefits package: This position does not have benefits.

Skills requirements:

  • Education: PhD or MD/PhD or equivalent
  • Work experience: Background education and knowledge in Clinical and Functional Human Anatomy in Endocrine, Reproductive, Musculoskeletal, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Renal and Gastrointestinal systems is essential.
  • Teaching and/or work experience in Human cadaver laboratory in the above mentioned systems is preferable.
  • Familiarity with uOttawa’s Medical curriculum is desirable.
  • Excellent knowledge of the English and /or French language.
