Biography
Dr. Karine Toupin April is an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, and an adjunct professor with the School of Rehabilitation Sciences in the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Health Sciences and a researcher with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute. She is also co-director of the second year courses in Society, the Individual and Medicine offered to the University of Ottawa’s UGME Francophone stream students. She is also one of the editors in the Cochrane Musculoskeletal Group.
Dr. Toupin April holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy, a Master’s degree in rehabilitation and a PhD in public health and epidemiology from the University of Montreal. She has also started a postdoctoral fellowship in epidemiology with the University of Ottawa.
Her research expertise bears on the management of chronic diseases in alternative and complementary medicine, in patient-reported outcome measures, in shared decision making, as well as in the application of knowledge. Her research includes the development and assessment of patient-reported outcome measures, decision-making tools and self-management tools for chronic diseases in pediatric and adult rheumatology. Her research is financed by The Arthritis Society and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
