uOttawa Faculty of Medicine’s radiologist Dr. Carlos Torres honoured with several international awards
uOttawa’s Associate Professor of Radiology Dr. Carlos Torres has been honoured with three international awards this summer. Most recently, He received the National Order of Merit Award in the Rank of Officer from the Republic of Colombia for his scientific contributions in the field of Diagnostic Neuroradiology in Canada.
In recognition of his outstanding professional and academic career, this distinction was conferred upon Dr. Torres by the Colombian Ambassador, His Excellency Nicolas Lloreda, on behalf of the President of Colombia, the Honourable Juan Manuel Santos Calderon, at the Embassy of Colombia in Canada on July 5.
Furthermore, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) – one of the largest medical societies in the world – recently named Dr. Torres as a 2017 RSNA Honored Educator for his participation as a dedicated teacher who actively furthers the profession of radiology by delivering high-quality educational content. The award, given to approximately 40 recipients each year, serves as an educational benchmark of academic productivity in support of a meaningful and successful radiology career.
Dr. Torres was recognized for his support and participation in the RSNA educational mandate. He specifically contributed by:
- Lecturing, providing test questions, and delivering workshops to learners;
- Travelling as an International Visiting Professor to Ulaanbaator, Mongolia; and
- Lecturing as the only neuroradiologist at the RSNA Spotlight Course in Bogota, Colombia.
Additionally, Dr. Torres was appointed in June as Distinguished Professor of Radiology at Henan Provincial People's Hospital, Zhengzhou University in China. This honour is in recognition for his contribution to the hospital’s Radiology Training Program, for his teaching as a Visiting Professor and for his participation in the Chinese Society of Radiology.
Congratulations to Dr. Carlos for his incredible accomplishments that reflect his passion to serve communities both locally and internationally. Since 2008, he has been an Associate Professor of Radiology at uOttawa Faculty of Medicine and a staff neuroradiologist at The Ottawa Hospital. Before joining uOttawa and TOH, Dr. Torres completed a two-year Neuroradiology Fellowship at McGill University in Montreal and did his residency at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. He has received numerous departmental, national and international awards for his teaching and research.
