On behalf of Dr. Bernard Jasmin, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine

Dr. Clare Liddy

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Clare Liddy has been appointed Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine*, for a term effective October 1, 2020 to June 30, 2025.

Dr. Liddy has served as Interim Chair of the Department since July 1, 2019, a role she stepped into on the heels of receiving the 2019 Family Medicine Researcher of the Year Award from the College of Family Physicians of Canada in recognition of her original and crucial contributions to research and knowledge-building in family medicine in Canada.

Such an approach and vision are critical in steering our largest department in maintaining its leadership in clinical teaching and research in order to provide rigorous, relevant and innovative primary care health services. A member of our Faculty for 17 years, Dr. Liddy was recently promoted to Full Professor in the Department, and she holds a cross-appointment to the School of Epidemiology and Public Health. She practices comprehensive family medicine within the Ottawa Hospital Academic Family Health Team at the Riverside Campus.

Dr. Liddy is a senior investigator with the Bruyère Research Institute and a Clinical Investigator at the C.T. Lamont Primary Health Care Research Centre. A world-renowned expert in many facets of family medicine and primary care management, she is dedicated to educating our future generations of family doctors and advancing the discipline of family medicine to enhance health services delivery for patients. Her important contributions to primary care research include co-founding the eConsult BASETM service, a secure online platform connecting primary care providers and specialists for coordinated patient care. Dr. Liddy has expanded the service throughout Ontario and beyond as co-Executive Director of the Ontario eConsult Centre of Excellence, and the service recently won a Future Innovator Award from The Change Foundation for its work in long term care.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Liddy on her appointment to the role of Chair of the Department of Family Medicine.
