As we approach the holidays and the end of 2018 it is a good time to reflect on the past year. One thought stands out for me. This has been a year of change! Concretely, it began with the move of the Department Offices to Peter Morand. We settled into a new space and learned how to accommodate Academic Day and our CaRMS interview process. Although there was a learning curve, I think we have come to appreciate the opportunities to use a more modern, flexible space to our advantage.
We have had many changes in the office, saying goodbye to many friends and meeting new team members. I want to thank Sylvie Forgues-Martel for stepping up in September as our part-time (full-time!) COO. In addition, we could not have carried on without the dedication and flexibility of the entire team! We have also had a number of changes in directors. I welcome each one who is bringing new ideas and energy to the programs. I would like to thank our former directors for their support and innovation: Dr. Sohil Rangwala, Dr. Gary Viner, Dr. Megan Williams, Dr. Simone Dahrouge, Dr. Eoghan O’Shea, Dr. Lyne Pitre, and Dr. Dorota Szczepanik. I look forward to your continued leadership and contributions to our success.
In January, I will have served my 5-year term as Department Chair. It has been a privilege to lead and work with this Department made up of such talented and committed people. A search committee has formed to find my replacement for July 1, 2019. In the coming months, I hope to help with a smooth transition to continue our success. Part of this will be considering the strategic direction of our Department. I invite you to consider your role in our future success.
In the meantime, my best wishes to all faculty, staff residents and students, and your loved ones, for a warm and happy holiday.
