The University of Ottawa Department of Family Medicine offers an intensive hands-on program for family medicine teachers to expand their skills in order to train the family physicians of tomorrow.
Our experienced family physician teachers are leaders in their field, and deliver training in the unique skills required to deliver effective and efficient primary care anywhere in the world. Learn more about our program below.
Objectives
Participants in the program will:
- Acquire knowledge to be able to teach and evaluate skills of primary health care learners
- Gain ability in setting up training programs
Program Outline
The program includes:
- 6 weeks of experiences in the classroom, office setting, hospital and administrative areas
- Experience in patient centered communication method
- Stanford University modified course
- Essential Teaching Skills (ETS) workshops
- Quality Improvement (QI) project
- Attendance and participation at resident teaching sessions
- Attendance and participation at resident supervision and video feedback
- Workshops on Curriculum
- Workshop on Program Accreditation
- Workshop on Specialist consultation
- Workshop on the function of collaboration and organization in a Family Health Team
- Workshop on CPD programs
- Workshop on Humanities and Art to teach empathy
- Attendance at Inpatient rounds and emergency care courses
Certification
Participants who complete the program will receive a diploma from the University of Ottawa Department of Family Medicine.
Eligibility and How to Apply
This program is suited for experienced primary care providers who wish to teach excellence in delivery of Family Medicine and are interested in learning about the Canadian system.
Good working knowledge of the English language (written and oral) is required.
