French as second language courses - Fall 2022

In collaboration with the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, we are pleased to announce the Fall 2022 session of French as a Second Language courses geared towards learning medical French. Different levels of courses are offered - Consult the course description.

Modalities

  • Online
  • Winter session 2022 : September 22 - December 1, 5pm to 7 pm.

Eligibility

Individuals affiliated with the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, Montfort Hospital, The Ottawa Hospital or the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario are eligible to apply:

  • Physicians
  • Students/residents
  • Professors
  • Researchers
  • University of Ottawa support staff

Registration

First registration :

Returning student :

  1. Complete the online placement test before September 20, 2022
  2. Register for the appropriate course (Test results are mandatory to complete registration.)
  1. Register on the online platform for the course following the one previously completed

Tuition Fee

There is no tuition fee to participate in French as a Second Language (FSL) courses offered at Roger-Guindon Hall. These courses are not credited. A certificate will be issued to anyone who has attended at least 80% of the courses.

N.B.: A fee of $29.25 will be charged to cover the cost of the test.


Frequent asked questions

1. Are the courses offered in person or virtual?

Due to COVID-19, all courses are being held virtually. Whether they will stay virtual or return to in-person learning will be determined later. The possibility of hybrid courses will also be examined.

2. I do not have an employee or student number with the University of Ottawa, how can I take the placement test?

Please send an email with the following information to fls_facmed@uottawa.ca:

You will then receive an email directing you to your test. 

3. I have registered but have not received any information or confirmation.

A calendar invitation is sent to the participants during the week leading up to the beginning of the course. If you have not yet received information by the morning of the first class, please send an email to fls_facmed@uottawa.ca for help.

4. I will have to miss a few classes; will I still receive my certificate?

To receive a completion certificate, 80% of classes must be attended.

5. I have a test score of … but cannot find the recommended course in the Faculty of Medicine FLS list.
