Congratulations to our Class of 2019 MD/PhD students who graduated this year: Jeremiah Hadwen, Brian Keller, and Laura McDonell. We wish you all the best as you continue your medical training!
University of Ottawa MD/PhD students were busy this spring! Here are some highlights:
- This March, the program held its first MD/PhD trainee seminar with Dr. Bryan Lo, lead scientist and medical director of the Ottawa Hospital's Molecular Oncology Diagnostics Laboratory. It was a great chance to meet and discuss the training and various career routes of clinician-scientists.
- Nathan Chiarlitti, a former OHL Hockey and uSports player, recently published a book: More Than A Game. In the book, Nathan shares what the sport of hockey has taught him about life! You can also watch his recent interview with #STREETCHAT at https://youtu.be/xnotDlh43S4.
- Clayton Hall was awarded the departmental Syed Sattar PhD Award and the Canadian College of Microbiologists Poster Award at this year’s Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease Canada (AMMI) – Canadian Association for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (CACMID) conference.
- Taylor Jamieson was recently featured in a uOttawa medicine article on her mentorship through the Aboriginal Mentorship Program. “Mentoring these students shows them that someone like them has been in this same situation. I’ve been able to share ideas, resources and my own experiences to keep them motivated.”
