Our Mission
To provide excellence in clinical care, education, research, innovation, quality, and patient safety in the field of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Introduction
The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) provides comprehensive obstetrical care in complicated high-risk pregnancy addressing the special needs of both mother and fetus at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH).
We offer comprehensive, specialized clinics including but not limited to:
- Multiple Pregnancy Clinic
- Placenta Health Clinic
- Preterm Prevention Clinic
- Fetal Anomalies Clinic
- Medical Disorders in Pregnancy and Cardio-Obstetric Clinic
Additionally, we provide advanced obstetric ultrasound, invasive prenatal diagnostic testing, and fetal therapy.
Our care involves a multidisciplinary approach in collaboration with Genetics, Neonatologists, Pathology, Pediatric Specialists at CHEO, Internal Medicine, Social Work, Dieticians and Mental Health Specialists.
The Division comprises seven MFM Specialists at the General Campus and five MFM Specialists at the CIVIC Campus. The MFM team at the General Campus also provide advanced gynecological ultrasound at the Shirley Greenberg Women’s Health Centre at the Riverside Campus of TOH.
Education
The MFM division has a robust and internationally recognized post graduate medical education program in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Advanced Obstetric and Gynecological Ultrasound. The MFM Fellowship has trained over 100 OB/GYN Trainees from 14 countries.
Our faculty members are heavily involved in undergraduate and post graduate medical education.
Research
The division has a substantial research portfolio, with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) and OMNI with over 650 peer reviewed publications.
Our division has produced clinical, epidemiological, basic science and innovative research, results of which are recognized nationally and international.
