Assistant Professor, Bioinformatics/Artificial Intelligence

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, in partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position related to Bioinformatics/Artificial Intelligence within the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology. The new faculty member will have a background that will allow them to successfully to develop a dynamic and collaborative research program that includes a focus on Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence and data integration.

The Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology comprises over 100 faculty members, features a vibrant research atmosphere addressing fundamental questions in basic biomedical research with strong links to translational and clinical research. The successful candidate will also be expected to establish and maintain a vigorous program of independent, externally funded research and to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching programs. The candidate will also become a member of the Ottawa Institute of Systems Biology, which develops and applies novel technologies, approaches and model systems to elucidate complex issues in biology.

Title of the position: Assistant Professor. The higher rank of Associate Professor will only be considered should the successful candidate possess an appropriate level of experience and commensurate achievements.

Duties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities evidenced by research, artistic or literary creation, or professional work; c) academic service activities; and d) supervision of graduate students and other research trainees.

Terms: Tenure-track position.

Wage: Assistant Professor salary scale commensurate starting at $86,986 Note: salary for higher ranks is commensurate according to rank and experience.

Benefits package: The University of Ottawa provides a complete compensation package, which includes long-term disability, basic group life insurance, supplementary health insurance, University of Ottawa Pension Plan and optional life insurance.

Relocation expenses: The successful candidate may be eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with University policy.

Skill requirements:

  • Education: PhD or MD/PhD in a relevant field, such as Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Biology or Human Genetics
  • Work experience: Postdoctoral experience, or equivalent, with demonstrated excellent research achievements. A commitment to teaching and graduate training, a strong track record in, and a commitment to, interdisciplinary collaboration. Excellent communication skills in either English or French.
