Biography
Dr Judith Allanson obtained her MB ChB from Liverpool Medical School, UK in 1977 and went on to train in internal medicine in the Liverpool (Merseyside) region. She moved to Vancouver to pursue training in medical genetics, completing that fellowship in 1983. She moved to the University of Ottawa and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in 1989. She was chief of genetics from 2001 to 2010 and retired from clinical practice in 2012. Dr. Allanson has served in a number of other leadership roles including: co-director of Genetics Education Canada – Knowledge organization (current); secretary-general, 12th International Congress on Human Genetics (2010); member of the Institute of Genetics Advisory Board, Canadian Institute of Health Research (2003 to 2009); and chair, section on genetics, Ontario Medical Association (1998-2001). Her clinical and research interests include facial pattern recognition and syndrome identification, the outcomes and consequences of genetic services and genetics literacy in primary care. She is the author of three clinical textbooks and more than 200 articles.
