Dr. Margaret Boland received her medical degree from Queen’s University in Kingston in 1977. She completed a medical research council fellowship and became a physician nutrition specialist through the American Board of Nutrition in 1986. She provided nutrition care to children at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) for over 25 years with a special interest in pancreatic insufficiency and under-nutrition. Following additional training at the Hospital for Sick Children and the University of Toronto, she became the first Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certified pediatric gastroenterologist in Eastern Ontario, establishing pediatric gastroenterology within CHEO. She was the head of the Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition service from 1998 to 2000. Dr. Boland’s research interests are with infants and children with cystic fibrosis. She is also a medical educator and supervises medical student rotations through the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at CHEO.
