Biography
Dr. Gail Graham completed an MSc in medical genetics in 1988 and an MD in 1992, both at Queen’s University in Kingston. Following her medical genetics residency at McGill University in Montreal in 1997 Dr. Graham accepted a staff position at the University of Calgary and Alberta Children’s Hospital. She moved to the University of Ottawa and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in 2001. Dr. Graham has received numerous teaching awards, including the University of Ottawa Award for Excellence in Innovation in Postgraduate Medical Education. Her clinical interests include syndrome recognition and delineation with a focus on ocular genetic conditions and renal cancer syndromes. Her interest in public health advocacy relating to Genetics has had national impact. She was the medical lead in the only Canadian litigation to challenge the validity of gene patents interfering in patient care (2013-2016) and involved in the passage of Bill S-201, An Act to Prohibit and Prevent Genetic Discrimination (2017). She has served in a number of leadership roles, including chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty Committee in Medical Genetics and President of the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG).
