Message from the Director of Fellowship Development

Dr. Leanna Isserlin

Welcome to the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry Fellowship Programs!

The Department of Psychiatry at uOttawa known for the high caliber of its clinical teachers and innovative research. We take great pride in providing a welcoming and collaborative learning environment.

Our fellowship programs are 1-2 years in length and are designed to develop your clinical expertise in selected subspecialty areas of child or adult psychiatry. All of the fellowships will also provide an opportunity to complete a work of academic scholarship.

We accept several types of applicants. Successful candidates will have completed (or be close to completing) specialty training in psychiatry and eligible for an independent practice certificate of registration in Ontario. We also accept fully sponsored international psychiatrists (IMGs) proficient in oral and written English. Further information about the requirements for obtaining an independent practice certificate of registration in Ontario can be found on the CPSO website. International applicants can find additional information about requirements for IMGs on the UOttawa website. For information about specific fellowships or for application instructions, please see the links listed on this page.

The fellowships take place at the 6 academic medical sites in our department: The Ottawa Hospital (Civic and General Campuses), The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Center, Brockville Mental Health Center, Montfort Hospital, and The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. We are also in the process of developing fellowships that will take advantage of affiliated community practices.

The Fellowship Directors are a dynamic group, comprising clinical and patient care leaders who have carefully designed detailed learning objectives and training experiences for their respective fellowship programs. Our faculty also includes national and international experts in psychiatric research.

Ottawa is renowned for its summer and winter outdoor leisure activities and high quality of life. For a full review of all that our beautiful city has to offer, please visit the Ottawa Tourism Webpage.
