Dr. Martinez-Rios holds an academic appointment with the Faculty as Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology and has been an active radiologist in the Medical Imaging Department at CHEO since 2017. She has previously worked as Assistant Professor and Staff Radiologist in McMaster’s Children’s Hospital.

A medical graduate from the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico, Dr. Martinez-Rios completed a research fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at the Children’s Hospital of Boston, Harvard Medical School from 2008-2009 where she was actively involved in different research projects. She also worked as a Staff Radiologist and Assistant Professor in charge of the Division of Pediatric Radiology at the University Hospital of Monterrey, Dr. J.E. Gonzalez from 2010 to 2011. From 2012-2014 she was appointed Visiting Faculty at Case Western Reserve University at the Rainbow, Babies and Children’s Hospital, where she also participated in different research projects.

In 2014-2016, during her fellowship at Sick Kids in Toronto, Dr. Martinez-Rios received the Outstanding Fellow Award for her commitment to Research-Education Excellence, and the 2016 John Caffey Award for Best Educational Exhibit from the Society of Pediatric Radiology. Her research interests are thyroid and brain oncology, neonatal brain and inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, as well as patient-centered medicine.

Dr. Martinez-Rios is a strong advocate for Pediatric Radiology Education and is a member of the Department of Medical Imaging at CHEO Residency Training Committee collaborating in the development of the curriculum in Pediatric Radiology Fellowship and actively involved in teaching sessions to Pediatric Radiology fellows, Medical Imaging residents and to fellows of other pediatric subspecialties. She is also actively involved in different quality improvement programs in the department and participates as speaker in different Pediatric and Neuropediatric Radiology meetings in Latin America.
