Executive Committee
The DoS Executive Committee meet:
- To steer the high-level direction of the department by discussing and voting on material issues (includes outlining any deliverables),
- To act as a liaison between significant outside entities (TOH, FoM, etc) and divisions/member surgeons
Finance Committee
The Chair of the Department of Surgery has established a departmental Finance Committee to review all matters connected with the financial health of the Department and its members and provide advice to the Chair and the Executive of the Department on appropriate courses of action.

Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee
Our department is recognized provincially and nationally as a leader in surgical quality.
Each division is committed to a mandate that aligns with the hospital’s vision around quality. The deliverables for each division are the following:
- A multidisciplinary team (i.e., CUSP team) that meets on a regular basis with the aim of reviewing any quality or patient safety issues and creating plans to address these
- Regular morbidity and mortality rounds following a standardized format with action items that are fed back to division members
- Review of events from the patient safety learning system (PSLS) and ensuring that these events are reviewed and if required create action items to resolve issues identified
- A minimum of one patient experience initiative

DTPC Department Teaching Personnel Committee
Role of the DTPC
The DTPC serves to implement the promotions process fairly and consistently across departments and to maximize the potential for faculty members to move forward for promotion. The mandate of the DTPC is to:
- Review, evaluate and recommend faculty members for promotion through the academic ranks.
- Serve as an internal peer review body to assist with the preparation of quality applications for promotion prior to submission.
- Facilitate and mentor faculty members through the promotions process.
- Review, evaluate and recommend faculty members for any other matter relating to academic duties as referred to it by the Clinical Department Chair.
Through providing recommendations to the Department Chair, the DTPC will make recommendations for consideration of faculty promotions to the CTPC. Faculty members will not be considered for promotion by the CTPC without a favorable recommendation of the DTPC.
