Rheumatology (Pediatric)

Objectives:

To ensure that the students:

  1. Acquire/enhance clinical skills in Paediatric Rheumatology
  2. Learn to communicate with rheumatology patients and their parents
  3. Learn clear and concise rheumatology history taking
  4. Learn competent physical examination skills, including a detailed examination of the musculoskeletal system
  5. Experience hands-on management of patients with rheumatologic disorders

Experience will include - Outpatient:

  1. Observation and hands-on encounters with new and follow-up general rheumatology patients.
  2. Learn complete rheumatology history taking
  3. Learn detailed joint specific musculoskeletal examination
  4. Learn general and specific management of rheumatology patients
  5. Reviewing of patient results with staff, including laboratory tests and x-rays

In-Patient:

  1. Rheumatology consultations
  2. Rheumatology admissions to Medical Day Care Unit
  3. Rheumatology admissions to Surgical/Interventional Radiology Day Care Unit for intra-articular joint injections
  4. Acquiring skills for intra-articular steroid injection
  5. Bedside teaching on rheumatology in-patients
LOCATION: Childrens Hospital of Eastern Ontario
DURATION:  2 weeks minimum
