Social Accountability Office Organization

This committee, reports to the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and ultimately the Vice Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education. The committee was created to give the newly appointed Social Accountability Director a leadership team, to allow for the growth and development of the Social Accountability mandate in the Faculty of Medicine. Over time the membership has grown, to include essential shareholders from diverse domains (see Terms of Reference). One of the first tasks was to create a Social Accountability Mandate, identifying two priority directions or groups that will direct our energies and shape our strategic plan.
This committee, a subcommittee of the Social Accountability Leadership Committee, was created to give students an active voice in Social Accountability at the Faculty. The membership is almost entirely made up of preclerkship students, recruited annually from the Social Accountability Forum. The mandate is somewhat open ended, allowing the group to deal with and provide a student perspective to the same issues as the Leadership Committee, offering feedback and ideas on how to incorporate social accountability into the curriculum. The committee is also free to take on individual projects, which currently include the responsibility of creating and maintaining the Faculty of Medicine’s Social Medicine Network. There are two co leads who represent the committee on the SA Leadership Committee.
