Room: Department of Medicine - Nephrology
Dr. Steven Nadler completed his medical degree and postgraduate training in internal medicine and nephrology at McGill University in the 70s and 80s. He then did a fellowship in renal tubule transport at Harvard University, before joining the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 1986. He held independent grants for the study of tubule transport and soon became very involved in the undergraduate medical curriculum.
Dr. Nadler chaired the old Renal Systems course and led the development of the Nephrology course for the Faculty’s first curriculum that encompassed problem-based learning (PBL). He was part of the first cohort of faculty to take the “Pierre Jean” course on systematic medical education, and helped educate faculty members in new methods of teaching (e.g. PBL). Administrative and clinical activities took him somewhat away from major involvement with teaching, and he is now looking forward to returning to what he enjoys most, teaching undergraduate medical students, as a member of the 2015 cohort of distinguished teachers.
