Dear students,
As you embark on your journey in medicine, the Student Affairs Office will assist you with the support to achieve your academic and personal goals.
Our team is committed to provide you with the mentoring and advocacy support as well as to promote your wellbeing and good health. We also offer personal counselling, career counselling and financial guidance.
In the next four years of your medical school, you might face personal, academic or health challenges. I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities available to meet with our team prior or during any struggles that you may be experiencing.
We are dedicated to help you develop your full abilities and succeed academically as well as grow personally.

Mandate
The mandate of the Faculty of Medicine Student Affairs Office (MEDSAO) is to support undergraduate medical student in all aspects of their medical school experience in order to promote and maintain student health and wellness and facilitate their success.
The office offers a comprehensive array of services and programs to undergraduate medical students in the MD program. We advocate on behalf of students and seek to develop students’ leadership and advocacy through various joint initiatives involving medical students. We also interact with multiple partners, namely the UGME Academic Affairs office, the University of Ottawa SASS (Student Academic Success Service) and its Disability Office (SASS – Academic Accommodations) as well as the Faculty of Medicine FWP (Faculty Wellness Program). Confidentiality of personal information is a key value of Student Affairs Office and we function at arm’s length from the academic UGME (Undergraduate Medical Education) office.
