Personal Counselling

Medical school can be overwhelming at times, especially when balancing it with extracurricular activities, family, and other commitments. The Student Affairs Office offers a personal counselling service to all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Medicine. This service is confidential. No information is shared with any members of the Faculty of Medicine or anyone else except with the expressed permission of the student, or as required by law.

All students, with concerns related to personal and/or academic demands are encouraged to consult with our professional counsellors. We recommend that you come in when these concerns first arise so that we can help prevent them from becoming more severe.

Our counsellors deliver both individual and group counselling. We can provide guidance on a wide range of issues including (but not limited to):

  • Life and school balance
  • Academic difficulties
  • Self-confidence
  • Physical health
  • Crisis intervention
  • Professionalism
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Life transitions
  • Identity issues
  • Decision making
  • Resilience building
  • Trauma & recovery
  • Other mental & physical health issues
