Scholarships and Bursaries

The University of Ottawa is proud to have one of the most generous scholarships and bursaries offerings in the country. Our students can apply for a large number of scholarships and bursaries offered by the University of Ottawa and the community. A scholarship is awarded for academic achievements while a bursary is awarded based on financial need.

Please see the information on scholarship and bursaries available on the Financial Aid and Award Office website.

To search for all scholarships and bursaries, get application criteria or apply, use the Online Scholarships and Bursaries tool.

Faculty of Medicine Scholarships and Bursaries

The Faculty of Medicine offers a great number of scholarships and bursaries to students registered in the MD program.

To encourage students to apply and in order to make the application process faster and easier, all bursaries solely based on financial need and specifically intended to the MD Program students are grouped in one (1) application.  Thus, when applying for scholarships and bursaries, please ensure to select the Multiple Financial Need Bursaries – MD Program. This will give you a chance to be considered for a series of bursaries, as long, of course, that you meet all the eligibility criteria of the different bursaries (ie. there could be residency criteria such as being an Ontario resident).

Students can also apply to a series of scholarships based on Community involvement for Students in the MD Program via one (1) application.

For a complete list of scholarships and bursaries offered to MD students, please use the Online Scholarships and Bursaries tool, select ‘general directory’ and enter medicine in the field ‘type’. We strongly encourage you to apply for all bursaries/scholarships for which you qualify.

Financial Questionnaire

The Financial Aid Office recommends that you take your time to thoroughly complete the financial questionnaire and to have a look at it early enough during the academic year to ensure that you do not miss any deadlines. If you need assistance with any questions on the questionnaire, please contact the Financial Aid and Awards Office at or at 613-562-5734.

Important Deadlines

Most of the in-course bursaries/scholarships deadlines are September 30th and October 31st for the first term and February 28th and March 31st for the second term. We recommend that verify the online scholarships and bursaries regularly to see if new ones have become available.

Who to contact
